Duarte Dinis, a researcher at UNIDEMI, carried out an international mobility period at the Università degli Studi di Bergamo (UNIBG), in Italy, under the FCT Mobility funding scheme, promoted by FCT.IP.
The stay took place over two months, between January and February 2026, with the Department of Management, Information and Production Engineering (DIGIP) as the host institution. The activities were developed within the CELS Research Unit, located at the Engineering Campus in Dalmine, Bergamo.
During this period, the researcher worked in close collaboration with Professor Roberto Sala and Professor Fabiana Pirola, strengthening the scientific ties between UNIDEMI and the Italian university.
The main objective of this mobility was to consolidate cooperation between both institutions, with emphasis on several strategic initiatives. These included the establishment of an Erasmus agreement aimed at facilitating the mobility of students, researchers, and academic staff, as well as promoting joint participation in national and European research projects.
Another central focus of this collaboration was the development of new scientific research lines, particularly in the application of Machine Learning techniques to maintenance management — an area of growing industrial and technological relevance.
This initiative represents another firm step towards the internationalization of research carried out at UNIDEMI and NOVA FCT.
