Research conducted within UNIDEMI was recently recognized with a Best Paper Award at the 1st EAI International Conference on Technology and Supply Chain Management, held in Lisbon in September 2026.

The award was presented to the paper “Beyond the Downward Bias: An Exploratory Study for Scope 3 Emissions in Supply Chain,” authored by Jorge Soares, Tiago Pinho, Nelson Carriço, and Izunildo Cabral.

As part of the research carried out by Jorge Soares, a student in the Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering, the study addresses a particularly relevant challenge in the transition towards more sustainable supply chains: the quantification of Scope 3 emissions.

The Best Paper Award recognizes the scientific quality and relevance of the research conducted, highlighting UNIDEMI’s contribution to the generation and dissemination of knowledge in emerging and strategic areas of Industrial Engineering.

The distinction also underscores the importance of research developed within doctoral programs as a platform for advancing scientific knowledge and addressing the complex challenges currently facing industry and global value chains.

UNIDEMI congratulates Jorge Soares and his co-authors on this achievement and on their contribution to advancing research in sustainable supply chain management.
