On October 24, the PhD defense in Mechanical Engineering by Pedro Rendas took place in the Sala de Atos of Building IV at NOVA FCT.
His presentation, entitled “Additive Manufacturing of Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) for Patient-Specific Implant (PSI) Applications: Developments in the mechanical performance and biofunctionalization of 3D-printed PEEK for the production of load-bearing implantable medical devices”, focused on the development and optimization of additive manufacturing (3D printing) of the polymer PEEK for the creation of personalized medical implants. The work investigates how to improve the mechanical performance and biological properties of 3D-printed PEEK to make it suitable for load-bearing implantable devices, combining strength, biocompatibility, and customization for each patient.
The examination committee was chaired by Professor Telmo G. Santos, Full Professor at NOVA FCT, and included the following members:
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) congratulates Pedro Rendas for the excellent work carried out and wishes him great success in his professional career.
