The candidate presented the thesis entitled “Methodologies for optimal design and additive manufacturing of metamaterials combining negative property indexes”, in which she develops innovative methodologies for the optimal design and additive manufacturing of metamaterials with unconventional physical properties.

On January 21, the PhD Defense in Mechanical Engineering of Cláudia João de Almeida took place at NOVA FCT.
The candidate presented the thesis entitled “Methodologies for optimal design and additive  of metamaterials combining negative property indexes”, in which she develops innovative methodologies for the optimal design and additive manufacturing of metamaterials with unconventional physical properties. The work particularly explores the potential of negative property indexes, opening new perspectives for advanced engineering applications.

The scientific supervision of the thesis was carried out by Professor Pedro Gonçalves Coelho, with co-supervision by Professor Alexandre José Velhinho, both Assistant Professors at NOVA FCT.

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Telmo G. Santos and included specialists of recognized academic and scientific merit, namely:

  • Dr. Hélder Carriço Rodrigues, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon;
  • Dr. Maria de Fátima Vaz, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon;
  • Dr. Pedro Gonçalves Coelho, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon;
  • Dr. Igor Rodrigues Lopes, Principal Researcher at INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering;
  • Dr. Telmo G. dos Santos, Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon;
  • Dr. Carla Moreira Machado, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon.
