
The Confederation of AI Research Networks in Europe (CAIRNE) has officially opened a new regional office in Guimarães, Portugal, reinforcing its dedication to advancing reliable and human-focused artificial intelligence across Europe.
This new hub is situated within the Associated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (LASI), a leading force in Portugal’s intelligent technology research landscape. Among the thirteen research and development units that form LASI is UNIDEMI, contributing to the lab’s multidisciplinary innovation ecosystem.
The Guimarães branch of CAIRNE is set to become a strategic center for AI advancement, structured around five core pillars: cutting-edge research and development, active community engagement, industry partnerships and entrepreneurial support, as well as the broad dissemination of AI knowledge and insights.
This expansion signals CAIRNE’s growing influence in shaping the future of AI through collaboration, transparency, and a strong regional presence.
