The doctoral candidate presented her thesis entitled “Human-like communication in conversational agents for delivering digital health interventions”, which analyzes the use of conversational agents in delivering digital health interventions, focusing on natural communication and human–machine interaction.

On January 26, the public doctoral defense in Industrial Engineering and Management of Ana Catarina Martins took place at NOVA FCT.
The doctoral candidate presented her thesis entitled “Human-like communication in conversational agents for delivering digital health interventions”, developed under the supervision of Professor Ana Rita Gamboa, with co-supervision by Professor Luís Velez Lapão and Professor Isabel Lopes Nunes. The work focuses on natural communication in conversational agents applied to the delivery of digital health interventions, exploring advances in human–machine interaction and contributing to the development of innovative solutions in the field of digital health.

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Virgílio Cruz Machado, Full Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the NOVA University of Lisbon, and also included:

  • Dr. Miguel Mira da Silva, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon;
  • Dr. Leonor da Conceição Teixeira, Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro;
  • Dr. Ricardo Cruz Correia, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto;
  • Dr. Luís Santos Guimarães, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto;
  • Dr. Ana Rita Gamboa, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the NOVA University of Lisbon.

The defense was successfully completed, highlighting the scientific and applied relevance of the research presented, as well as its potential impact on the advancement of digital technologies in the service of health.
