Between 14 and 18 July 2025, Professor João Fradinho, from DEMI and member of UNIDEMI, represented NOVA FCT at the 4th IAAD International Summer School on Axiomatic Design, held in Bolzano, Italy.
The event, part of the European project SUSEE – Smaller Universities for Sustainability in Engineering Education, brought together faculty and students from universities in Italy, USA, Iceland, Poland, Germany, France, Colombia, and Portugal to explore the principles of Axiomatic Design and their application to sustainable systems.
João Fradinho was one of the invited speakers, delivering a lecture dedicated to independence metrics, from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
The event offered a comprehensive overview of the fundamental principles of Axiomatic Theory, based on over 30 years of teaching and practical experience. Designed for both beginners and experienced users, it presented qualitative and quantitative methods to select good design solutions and foster innovation.
Local companies were also involved, presenting case studies for the development of projects incorporating aspects of sustainability. This initiative strengthened international collaboration and highlighted the role of engineering in driving sustainable innovation.
