Professor Telmo G. Santos, a faculty member at DEMI and researcher at UNIDEMI, was the Principal Investigator of an R&D project dedicated to developing an innovative technique for identifying micro-defects in various materials. This solution could have a direct impact on the inspection of high-value-added components, such as optical and orthodontic components, or in microfabrication.
The research is based on the use of bacterial cells as a means of detecting defects and was recently featured in SIC’s special report titled “Microbes: The New Workers in the Factories of the Future.”
The report highlights the fundamental role of scientific research in creating innovative solutions for real industrial challenges.
