UNIDEMI has recently strengthened its international scientific cooperation network through a research mission to Virginia Tech, in the United States of America, undertaken by researcher Marta Carvalho. The initiative, part of the internationalisation strategy of UNIDEMI and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI), provided an opportunity to deepen scientific collaboration with the Terramechanics, Multibody, and Vehicle Systems (TMVS) Laboratory.
During the mission, working meetings were held with Dr. Corina Sandu and her research team, providing a valuable platform for discussion and knowledge exchange in areas of shared scientific interest. The work carried out contributed to consolidating the collaboration between the two teams and to identifying new opportunities for cooperation in research and advanced training.
Cooperation with Virginia Tech is particularly relevant to the development and capacity building of new UNIDEMI researchers, creating opportunities for them to gain exposure to internationally recognised research methodologies, expertise, and research environments. In this context, the partnership will facilitate access for researchers and PhD students to advanced training modules in the United States, while also promoting international co-supervision and research stays.
The collaboration also paves the way for the development of joint scientific projects and research activities, with the potential to result in new publications in international journals and conference proceedings. Establishing scientific networks of this kind contributes to the integration of UNIDEMI researchers into international scientific communities and strengthens the centre’s capacity to conduct high-quality, high-impact research.
