
UNIDEMI participated in the 7th International Conference on Quality Engineering and Management (ICQEM 2026), held over two days at NOVA Medical School in the heart of Lisbon.
The local organisation of the conference was coordinated by André Carvalho, a UNIDEMI researcher, whose efforts contributed to the success of an event that brought together leading experts, researchers, and quality professionals from around the world.
The 2026 edition of ICQEM welcomed 130 participants, 45 organisations and 30 countries. A total of 110 presentations and 25 technical sessions, providing an outstanding forum for the exchange of scientific knowledge and the discussion of the latest developments in quality engineering and management.

In addition to the plenary sessions, the conference included several parallel technical sessions dedicated to the presentation and discussion of scientific research across a broad range of topics in quality engineering and management.
Among the conference highlights was the Best Presentation Award, presented to the paper “Improving the Quality of Patient Post-Discharge Care using a Machine Learning–Based Decision Support System“, authored by Luís Velez Lapão (UNIDEMI researcher), Matilde Santos, and Mariana Peyroteo (PhD student in the Industrial Engineering Doctoral Program at NOVA FCT ).
The award recognises the excellence of the research carried out within NOVA FCT’s scientific ecosystem.
