The project developed theoretical work and created a design tool for analysing of coil and tank vibrations during short-circuit fault conditions. This software tool yields vibration estimates and enables optimal design of short-circuit reinforcement beams for shell form power transformers by use of genetic algorithms. These short-circuit beams, which are part of the transformer tank, are responsible for ensuring that coil and tank movements are kept under control during a short-circuit fault and are therefore crucial elements that guarantee safety and transformer health during and following the fault condition.
